The second LGBT survey

Seven years after the first survey was launched in 2012, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) launched in May 2019 the second version of its LGBTI survey. The aim is to collect experiences of discrimination, harassment, hate crime and hate speech, as well as views and challenges of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and, for the first time, intersex persons. The survey can be answered by anyone who is aged 15 years and older, considers themselves LGBTI and lives in the European Union, Serbia or North Macedonia.

The first LGBT Survey attempted to fill the gap created by the lack of statistical data on the experiences of LGBT persons in the EU. Counting on over 93.000 replies, it became the largest collection of data at the time. The results published informed many policy measures aimed at addressing discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity.

The re-launch of the survey will allow to collect evidence necessary to compare results from the 2012 version and to assess policies substantiated by the previous data. The expansion of the survey to intersex persons will additionally help to inform policy and law-makers on issues related to sex characteristics.

The survey will be carried online between May and July 2019 and the results will be published in 2020.

Survey is available in many languages.
